The Chrudimka Valley

Antonín Chittussi

Antonín Chittussi - The Chrudimka Valley
After his return from France, about 1887, Chittussi once more worked near his native Ronov, painting several pictures of the Chrudimka valley in the ondulating country of the Iron Mountains. This painting is together with his picture of the "Drowned" pond one of his most beautiful views of the Czech landscape. The secluded picturesque stream under the mountains, their tops disappearing in fog, captivates not only by the combination of blue-violet tones with a wide range of greens, but also by the melancholy mood of the country, emphasized by a lonely figure in the centre of the picture.
