Cornelis Engelbrechtsz - (studio) - Triptych with the Crucifixion - The Crucifixion
The corners of the original painted frame are decorated with Old Testament scenes; the expressiveness of the scene of Jonah and the whale I the right wing is particularly interesting. The story of Jonah, who was swallowed by a “big fish” and thrown out without any bodily harm three days later, heralds the fate of Christ - his death and subsequent resurrection on the third day, as can be seen in the panels of the triptych.
