Bernardo Daddi - Triptych of the Betrothal of St. Catherine Flanked with St. Bartholomew and St. Benedict?
The small-size triptych is one of a number of home altarpieces produced in Daddi’s Florence workshop. It was his merit that this type of portable cult painting, until then known from Duccio´s production in Siena, was spread in Florence. The motif of the Infant Jesus standing on the Virgin’s knee is also from Siena. It was first used by Simone Martini in his Maest?, dated 1305.
