Village Children at Play

The picture, in the past known as Children with a water-mill on the brook and exhibited in 1879 at an exhibition in Prague, was probably painted after earlier studies made by Mánes during his visits of the Kotz of Dobrš family at Chodový Újezd; the painting was the family's property until 1937. It belongs to the many pictures Mánes painted of children in school, at play, visiting or working.
