Rural Garden

Vojtěch Bartoněk

Vojtěch Bartoněk - Rural Garden
A view of garden secluded corners with luxuriant vegetation appears to be a plein air study of a peasant genre from the early 1890s where a garden was the setting for the everyday rural life anecdote - for example the Young Botanist featuring a boy collecting brushwood in someone else’s garden or the Will He Come painting featuring a young girl at a garden gate watching for a boy; both of them are known only from historical reproductions. The artist’s daughter Eliška Bartoňková donated this painting to the National Gallery Prague in 1979.
