Visiting the Studio

Vojtěch Bartoněk

Vojtěch Bartoněk - Visiting the Studio
The artist’s daughter Eliška Bartoňková donated the canvas Visiting the Studio to the National Gallery in 1979. As indicated by the format and the sketch-like painting, it is rather a study for a larger canvas than a final artwork. Depictions of real or fictive artist’s studios were extremely popular during the second half of the 19th century. In 1890, Zlatá Praha periodical reproduced Bartoněk’s painting In the Studio: Models Waiting for Artists.
