Zdeněk Sýkora

Zdeněk Sýkora - Line No. 168
At the beginning of the 1960s, Zdeněk Sýkora arrived at strictly mathematically calculated geometrical painting structures from his distinctly colourful and materially felt landscape paintings featuring gardens. In his 1990s paintings, Sýkora appears to have returned to the topic of nature on a higher level. Similar to his early garden paintings, he makes reality more visible as the expression of energy. In both cases, ‘immersion’, or rather penetration into the structural material of the world may be described. Instead of the previous crowns of trees, in his contemporary paintings Sýkora creates somewhat galactic energy whirls, pictures of space endowed with some symbolical meanings (the beginning and end of life, apocalypse, etc.).
