The Suicide of Cleopatra

The composition is clearly based on the depiction of The Suicide of Lucretia, on the type created by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his workshop. Here we have an original theme reworked and replaced by the Suicide of Cleopatra, a theme that does not occur in Cranach's work; its greater distribution occurred only in the course of the 17th century.
