Egbert van der Poel was enlisted in the Delft guild of painters as a landscape painter. His views of Delft ruined by a tragic explosion of the gunpowder store in 1654 are well known. The Porch of a Farmhouse is in fact a still life of everyday objects incorporated in a rustic interior.
