The „Maria“ at Honfleur

The interest of Georges Seurat in the painting The „Maria“ at Honfleur of 1886 completely focuses on technical aspects, of the scene, including the harbour with the steamboat „Maria“ at anchor, where the natural component is reduced to the little amount of water surface. In his pointillist paintings, Seurat paid attention to the strict art order of shapes and colours. He searched for new synthesis in opposition to impressionism.
