Village by Moonlight

Joos II. de Momper, Jan l. Brueghel - Village by Moonlight
The painting offers an impressive view of a Flemish village at full moon. Momper managed to create the fantasy-like look through well-thought out light directing - the view is lit by both the cold moonlight as well as the glow of the fire on the opposing side. Even at night time there seems to be a live traffic in Momper’s rendering of the village, as if by day. The figurative staffage was probably painted by Jan I. Brueghel.
