Wilhelm Riedel

Wilhelm Riedel - On the River
Riedel's landscape style was gradually shaped during his study trips. In Italy he abandoned sombre colours, while in France he learned plein-air painting, following the example of French painters of intimate landscapes. Under the influence of Charles François Daubigny, Riedel developed, as fifteen years later Antonín Chittussi, an unrestrained, almost sketchy brushwork, allowing him to capture with delicate colour patches the airy atmosphere of the country near the rivers Seine and Oise.
