Vojtěch Bartoněk - From the Marketplace in Prague, study
In 1895, Bartoněk was commissioned to create five lunettes for the new marketplace in Rytířská Street in which he rendered the views of nearby markets: Egg Market, Coal Market, Fruit Market, Saint Gallus Market, and V Kotcích Market which were to be partly replaced by the new marketplace. The markets of Prague remained Bartoněk’s favourite topic, focusing on everyday life of street vendors and their customers in his multiple canvases. The study From the Marketplace in Prague depicts the marketplace in Tyl Square in Královské Vinohrady where Bartoněk and his family lived from the end of the 1890s.
