Antonín Mánes - Path
In the first half of the 1820s Mánes’s ideal in painting was the refined Neo-Classicist landscape, carefully studied in all its details. The motif of a path, often found in literature too, expressed with Neo-Classicist soberness the prevailing attitude to the world. Mánes’s lively brushwork, light colour scheme with a major share of emerald green and the pen-and-ink underdrawing showing through the thin, transparent colours enhance the emotional impression of the landscape sketch.
