Karel Purkyně - Morning Hour (Window)
This idyllic and rather intimate picture of a young woman in a window full of flowers and creepers was intended as a wedding present for Purkyně's friend Josef Szalatnay. The face in the window is that of Szalatnay's bride Berta Hamplová. By combining a portrait, genre and still-life Purkyně created one of his masterpieces. The picture is full of charming details, has a rich colour facture with accents reminiscent of contemporaneous French painting and plastic brush strokes.
