Antonfrancesco di Giovanni dello Scheggia (?) - The Rape of Helen
The two paintings were part of the decoration of a wedding chest called cassone in Italy. In the 15th century, worldly subjects were often used, drawing from the ancient history and mythology. In this case, the inspiration was found in the stories from Homer´s epic describing the Trojan wars.
