A Sand - Pit Outside Town (From the Vicinity of Paris)

In the first two or three years of his stay in France Chittussi painted a set of interesting small studies from the vicinity of Paris. The Sand-pit outside town, painted with broad brush-strokes, is one of his robust plein-air studies, in which he tried to capture the features of a specific landscape and to express its light and atmosphere with pastose colours.
