Early Morning Song

Julius Mařák

Julius Mařák - Early Morning Song
Mařák married in 1871 and he spent the next three years with his young wife in the Tyrolean Alps, where he did many plein-air drawings; he used some of them later for his planned cycles of drawings and for several oil paintings. This Morning song is a free variant of the third sheet with the same title from the cycle Forest solitude, one of Mařák's loveliest and most lyrical forest sceneries. The detailed, velvet-soft brush drawing in delicately arranged brilliant brown-yellow-green colours is a touching, emotive song, tribute to beautiful forest nature in the early-morning sun and with the first birds singing.
