Wintry Self-Portrait

Jindřich Prucha

Jindřich Prucha - Wintry Self-Portrait
The self-portrait is set in an interior with a view of a barren, raw landscape with snowy areas. Prucha presented himself as a painter with a brush and palette on which are the same colours as those used in the background of the painting. His look gives a very urgent impression as if he would like to articulate a question. The painting shows a significant lesson from Edvard Munch – firm plan, austere constriction of the topic, and contrasts of dark and light areas.
