Samois after the Rain

Zdenka Braunerová

Zdenka Braunerová - Samois after the Rain
Since the early 1880s Braunerová travelled frequently between France, Italy and Bohemia, living by turn in Prague and Paris, where initially she trained assidiously under G. C. E. Courtois. Very soon she made a habit of plein-air painting in the vicinity of Fontainebleau, while studying French landscape painting, in which she discovered a modern view of the world. The motif of rain in the countryside near Samois (not far from Fontainebleau), home of her sister, is evidence of her sensitive appreciation of village life and of the local atmosphere.
