Hippolyt Soběslav Pinkas - Vine
Soon after his arrival in France Pinkas moved to the artists' colony at Marlotte led by Henri Murger. In his work he followed along the lines of the Barbizon landscape painters, but he was also familiar with Courbet's Realism and with Jean-François Millet’s monumental peasant types. In this study of a vine, with the bent figure of a woman gathering brushwood, Pinkas focused on the painterly aspect of his picture. He used all the colours offered by nature in the autumn and created one of his most beautiful colour compositions.
