Martino Rota - Engraver, Michelangelo Buonarroti - Inventor, Luca Guermony - Publisher - Last Judgment
The Dalmatian engraver and painter was active in Italy and later on worked in Vienna and Prague for the Habsburg emperors. He was one of the many engravers who paid homage to Michelangelo’s Last Judgment represented on the back wall of the Sistine Chapel. Although this engraving is dated to 1569, it depicts the painting based on an older model, as the print shows the fresco in a state prior to the censorship intervention performed by the painter Daniele da Volterra. Rota also reproduced other works of Michelangelo and the master's compositions provided him with inspiration in his later creative output, as well.
