Thomas Cook - engraver, William Hogarth - inventor - The Bathos, after an original Hogarth print of 1764
Hogarth’s last print was created seven months before his death. The print features a number of symbols of death and decay, including the death of Time itself, and not least among these images of ruin is the degradation of Hogarth’s line of beauty. The Bathos is one of Hogarth’s darkest and most radical works.
