El Djem

Oskar Kokoschka

Oskar Kokoschka - El Djem
El Djem is a city in eastern Tunisia which was founded on the ruins of the Roman city Thysdrus. It is renowned for having the largest Roman amphitheatre on the African continent. Oskar Kokoschka did not choose this topic by coincidence; in his prints he followed the memory of European civilisation. The print is one of the fifty which J.E. Wolfensberger printed and published in Zurich in 1971.
