Karl Joseph Aloys Agricola - engraver, Rémy Vuibert - inventor - The Judgment of Solomon
While Vienna-based painter, draughtsman and engraver Karl Agricola (1779-1852) was best known as a portrait miniaturist, he was also an admirer and imitator of the old masters’ style and did engraved reproductions of their work. The engraving Judgment of Solomon is one of many prints wrongly attributed to Poussin. The reproduced painting is by French painter Rémy Vuibert (1607-1652), a friend of Poussin, who lived in Rome in the 1630s. Poussin painted the well-known canvas The Judgment of Solomon - now in the Louvre - in 1649.
