The inscriptions in the bottom part of the sheet attest to the torso on the left having been drawn after an ancient sculptural fragment, whereas the part of the nude male figure to the right were modelled on a design by Michelangelo, most likely a drawing. The graphic sheet is an eloquent example of Michelangelo’s meticulous study of ancient sculpture and the strong impact it had on his creative output.
