Dionysius Valesio - engraver, Francesco Guardi - inventor - View from the Church of St. Jeremiah
There is scarse information about Valesio’s life. He probably lived between the years 1737 and 1777. He came from Parma, but spent most of his creative years in Venice and Verona. The print made after Guardi’s paintings testify to the engraver’s remarkable life. Although Valesio faithfully transposed Guardi’s painting into the print medium, his works lose nothing of their artistic originality. The distinctive style typified by soft lines renders these etchings works of art in their own right.
