Alone (Doku)

Master Kyūha Ōtomo (1919–1993) was a representative of avant-garde calligraphy and member of the board of the Sankei association. Here he created a compact character “alone” (doku), which extends beyond the edges of the picture format, fills in the frame space and seems to continue into some unknown area, creating a three-dimensional effect.
