The considerable stylization of the linearly conceived body, arising from a bell-shaped base, may also be found on the funerary ceramic figures from the Western Han period. This attests to the fact that certain stylistic conventions in the depiction of the human body overlapped the boundaries of various media and were shared by the artists in the workshops that produced figures for the needs of the funeral cult. Such smaller figures as this one are a typical product of serial workshop production, which met the demands of even less affluent families.
