The vase is made in the cloisonné technique and decorated with blossoms of prunus and “pheasant’s eye” (fukujusō in Japanese). A counterpart of the spring flowers is one of the “Friends of Winter” – bamboo, which is composed into the multilayered body of the vase’s enamelled surface in the form of contour decoration. The changing seasons and their accentuation in the arts have always been of major importance to Japanese culture.
