Salmovský palác (The Salm Palace)

Built in 1800‒1811, author František Pávíček, Classicist architecture

Used by the National Gallery since 2005

Initially two houses turned into a residence for the archbishop Vilém Salm-Salm. In the middle of 19th century, it was acquired by the Schwarzenberg family and has since therefore since been sometimes called “the small Schwarzenberg Palace”. It has a clear composition made up of three wings, each with the same number of floors, which surround an entrance courtyard. At its eastern side is a gate leading to a garden that stretches down a steep slope which extends above the Nerudova street. Thanks to its location, the palace offers some great views of Prague, and after several years of trying to decide what should be exhibited inside, it was chosen for works of Oriental art.
