Stanislav Podhrázský - Legs
Stanislav Podhrázský, known primarily as a painter who moved from the surrealist style to lyrical imagination and magic realism, also made sculptures from plaster and found objects (that have not survived) in the second half of the 1940s and again in the 1960s. The sculptures produced during his studies at the College of Decorative Arts in the studio of František Tichý (1945-1950) are among the most remarkable expressions of surrealism in Czech sculpture. Podhrázský first conceived some of his sculptures as three-dimensional models for paintings; it was with this intention that he did The Legs.
