Ludvík Kohl - Interior of a Temple with the Figure of Pallas Athena
The architectural drawings of Ludvík Kohl were produced as illustrative aids for teaching architectural morphology at an elementary school in Prague, where the artist was employed as a teacher over four decades (1775–1821). At the same time, these drawings are an expression of romantic historicism. While in his drawings devoted to Gothic architecture Kohl revived the past fame of Czech history, in his images with themes from Classical antiquity he laid emphasis on evoking the mysterious atmosphere of extinct civilizations. He depicted the ritual of a burnt offering, about to take place in the scene, in various other drawings and paintings.
