Václav Brožík

Václav Brožík - Family Scene
Having married Hermine Sedelmayer, Brožík often painted his new surroundings. Small everyday scenes take place against the background of sumptuously furnished drawing-rooms, bedrooms and nurseries. Brožík gave free rein to his masterly handling of colours and his dazzling palette. He could differentiate fabrics and carpets simply with colours, while accurately depicting every detail of the furniture and even, as in this painting, of children's toys. The painting with its picturesque composition and striking colours is pleasing to the eye; it is somewhat reminiscent of similar scenes painted by Mihaly Munkacsy, Brožík's only slightly older contemporary, with whom he had much in common - in both life and art.
