A Brook under Deciduous Trees

Piepenhagen's landscape Romanticism was truly intimate, expressing deep impressions of nature. With its magnificent concept this Brook under deciduous trees is one of Piepenhagen's few large-sized paintings. The foreground with the stony brook, full of many details, is modelled with pastose colours, while the forest interior in the background is disappearing in mist and trees are merging with colour tones of the atmosphere.
