Large grooving

Václav Boštík

Václav Boštík - Large grooving
This painting is one of the most aoutstanding examples of Václav Boštík’s late period. It reflects the immanent values that the autor discovers in the combination of spiritual and comics energies. The impact of this monochrome canvas is based on the light-modelled construction of parallel planes that create an extraordinary tension between form and nothingness - the conception of the world in the process of creation. In the late 1970s, Boštík’s concentrated painting adhered to the Minimalist style, arriving at the centre of attention of the unofficial art scene. During that period, in the spiritual quest that developed amidts the country’s profound social and cultural decline, Boštík’s painting represented a forceful inspiration within the Czech artistic context.
