Josef Mánes - In the Moonlight
On his frequent visits to the manor Čechy pod Kosířem (Haná region in Moravia) Mánes painted many pictures in the style of the so-called Second Rococo. Resorting to colourful Rococo luminism, he depicted the idyllic life of an aristocratic society dressed in late 18th-century costumes. Unbriddled playfulness, gallantry, secret dates and meetings of friends were the most frequent subjects of these pictures. The exhibited companion paintings were done for Eugene count Sylva-Taroucca and were probably completed in the autumn 1855.
