Wallerant Vaillant - engraver, David II Teniers - inventor - Lute Player
Reproductions of paintings by 17th-century Dutch and Flemish painters are a major part of Vaillant’s graphic oeuvre. He chose, perhaps most often, scenes by his contemporary David Teniers II, a prominent representative of genre painting active in Antwerp and Brussels. Teniers was a prolific painter with a broad thematic repertoire and his works were very popular. He did commissioned work for major clients, especially Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands.
