Claude Mellan - engraver, Simon Vouet - inventor - Charitas romana
Claude Mellan was born in the northern-French city of Abbeville in 1598 (and died in France in 1688). Having arrived in Rome in 1624, he stayed there until 1636, mastering his skills in the workshops of Francesco Villamena and Simon Vouet during the sojourn. Mellan’s oeuvre is characteristic of the brilliant technique which earned him the renown of an excellent graphic artist in the Eternal City.
