Nicolas Dorigny - engraver - Decoration of the San Agnese in Agone church dome at Piazza Navona
Dorigny began working on this print, which he subsequently donated to Gian Battista Pamphilj, in 1690. Its subject is the cupola of the St Agnes church in Piazza Navona. The given construction, designed by Rainaldi and Borromini, was decorated by Ciro Ferri’s paintings in 1670. The print is rather exceptional due to the flawless rendition of all details of the church interior. Regardless of the array of figures, the engraver depicted them with utmost cogency. Dorigny simultaneously created yet another graphic rendition of the same fresco. This latter version mainly differs in the overall arrangement of the scene into eight panels.
