Wallerant Vaillant - engraver - Standard Bearer
In 1658, when Prince Rupert, Count Palatinate, invited Vaillant to assist him in his experiments with mezzotint, Vaillant did his major prints Standard Bearer and Great Executioner. Vaillant probably cooperated on these high-quality and rare sheets. Unfortunately, Vaillant usually failed to date his prints. He may have done this paraphrase as late as the 1660s or 1670s in Amsterdam as a tribute to the well-known print by Rupert.
