Agostino Carracci - engraver, Francesco Vanni - inventor - St Jerome
St Jerome is seen as one of the prints that clearly demonstrates the influence of Netherlandish graphic artist Hendrick Goltzius on Carracci’s work. This influence is apparent in the contrast between light and shade, the richly folded drapery with sharp-cut folds and depiction of details, such as the hair and beard. As Goltzius undertook a study trip in Italy in 1590-1591, it is likely the two artists met personally in Bologna, one of Goltzius’ destinations.
