Giovanni Battista Brustolon - engraver, Antonio Canaletto - inventor - Visit of the Doge to San Zaccaria on Easter Day
One of the most celebrated series of reproductions, produced through the collaboration of Canaletto and Brustolon, is a group of twelve, large-sized engraved copperplates entitled „Ducal Festivities“ (Feste Ducali in Italian). Originally, only eight plates were supposed to be issued. However, the collection met with such success that another four engravings were added. This print depicts an annual event when the Doge of Venice, accompanied by the local nobility and foreign envoys, visited the Church of San Zaccaria - one of the symbols of the sovereignty of the Venetian state.
