The Laughing Audience

Charles Corbet, also cited as Charles Corbutt, was an engraver working in the medium of mezzotint and active in London. He never established himself as an independent artist, working instead for various publishers. His print of The Laughing Audience, focusing on a close study of grimaces and faces, points to the great popularity of Hogarth’s satirical prints in 1760s England.
