Wenceslaus Hollar - etcher, Hans Holbein - inventor - A Richly Adorned Vase
As we known, Hans Holbein the Younger (1498-1543) was in the employ of the English king Henry VIII. Besides painting numerous portraits, he also made designs of decorative vessels. The Earl of Arundel acquired the designs for his collections. Hollar produced a series of etchings based on these models, which he published from 1645-1649. Based on a design of a lavishly decorated vase, this etching belongs to the series of Holbein’s designs of luxury vessels.
