Spring From the cycle The Four Seasons as Full-Length Female Figures

Wenceslaus Hollar - engraver - Spring From the cycle The Four Seasons as Full-Length Female Figures
This four seasons cycle, published in 1643-1644 and featuring full-length female figures, can be seen as Hollar’s best. Like in earlier series, each season is accompanied by a short poetic text, probably written by the poet Henry Pecham, who worked at Arundel’s court in London as well as Hollar. Hollar’s well-known cycle depicts women in scenes set in the English countryside or London with charming genre motifs. This work represents the height of his mastery of rendered materials.
