Wenceslaus Hollar

Wenceslaus Hollar - View of Richmond Palace
During his initial years in England, Hollar made sketches of the English countryside and the local population and depicted prominent palace structures. Richmond Palace - one of the royal residences - was built between 1497 and 1551. In 1703, the palace was demolished, but thanks to Hollar's drawings and etchings, we at least have a visual record of its appearance. This view is imbued with a tranquil atmosphere, further enhanced by a carefree company on a stroll.
