Young Draughtsman

Although Vaillant specialized in portraiture as a painter, several illusive still lifes are also known, as is a signed painting of an art studio apprentice (housed in a museum in Lille, France). While the displayed print does not reproduce this canvas, it does share its main features - in both, a young man in the studio draws after a copy of the admired sculpture of the Farnese Hercules.
