Stefano della Bella - Water Alley from the series Pratolino
Pratolino is located north of Florence. This is a hunting villa with an extensive park, built by Francesco I, Duke of Tuscany, in 1569–1586 after plans by Bernardo Buontalenti. This complex was particularly known in its day for its great many fountains and “water surprises” (no longer extant today). Throughout the 19th century, the villa’s extensive gardens were re−landscaped into an English park.
