Captain Kempthorne’s Engagement on the Mary Rose with Seven Ships of Algier

Upon the expedition’s return from Tangier to England three months later, with the diplomatic mission having proven ineffective, the ship was attacked by Algerian pirates. Back in England, Hollar depicted the maritime battle in this etching that was incorporated into John Ogilby’s „Africa“, accompanied by a detailed description (see R 50713).
